Board Composition: Pre-launch email 

The pre-communication for the Board Composition process, introduces the process and outlines participant expectations.

Dear [Directors],


We are about to launch a Board Composition diagnostic process for [Organisation], using BoardOutlook. 


BoardOutlook offers a secure and confidential platform with proven questions and frameworks. The software is accessible online via a computer, tablet, or phone.


Board Composition diagnostic  details:

  • The Board Composition diagnostic is the first stage of the BoardOutlook Skills Matrix process, and is focused on helping the Board prioritise the right Skills Matrix for [Organisation]. It is a collective view of the skills this Board needs now and in the future. It is not an individual assessment of skills of individual directors.
  • Most boards will follow this exercise with an individual skills assessment completed by each Board member, to identify where current Director skills sit against the developed Skills Matrix. This will happen after the [Committee/Board] has discussed the results of this diagnostic and agreed which skills are the most critical priorities for the organisation.
  • Time Commitment: The Board Composition Diagnostic invites deeper thinking about the ideal future composition of the [Organisation] Board, and may take up to 45 minutes to complete. 
  • Flexibility: your answers will automatically save every 30 seconds as long as you’re connected to the internet. 

The process will commence on [Target Date], and you can expect to receive an invitation email from BoardOutlook at this time. Once live, you’ll have [one] week to complete the diagnostic.
